Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister in charge of Government Communications, addressed Ghanaians. He assured them that the Mahama-led administration is taking public concerns seriously.
This comes after a viral video showed Sammy Gyamfi, Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, giving dollar notes to Nana Agradaa at a public event. Many people criticized this gesture due to current economic challenges.
In response, Mr. Gyamfi apologized. He claimed the donation was a private act of kindness and not meant for public viewing. The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has summoned him to explain his actions.
Speaking on Eyewitness News with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized the government's commitment to high governance standards. He acknowledged that many sentiments have been expressed since the video aired.
He noted that summoning Mr. Gyamfi shows the government's seriousness about addressing this issue. President John Dramani Mahama will be briefed upon his return for further action.
Meanwhile, the Minority has called for Mr. Gyamfi's suspension pending an inquiry outcome. Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated that the government aims to govern differently and uphold high standards.
He reiterated that public concerns are important and reflect expectations for change from past administrations.
