Reliable Water, Every Drop Empowers Her was the headline for the HOPSA 2001 Year Group Project Launch. This event took place at the Chandelier on April 26, 2025. The dynamic class of HOPSA 2001, known as the Sapphires, organized it. They will also host next year’s 80th Speech and Prize-Giving Day at Holy Child School. This year marks 25 years since their graduation.
The project aims to provide a sustainable water solution for over 3,000 students and staff. It will enhance the school’s daily water capacity by an impressive 20,000 gallons per day. The launch showcased excellence and resilience with sustainable water solutions as a key focus.
The event attracted many dignitaries, including Prof. Kofi Abotsi and Justice Olivia Obeng Owusu. In her opening address, Mrs. Anita Nadia Attah emphasized that “the Sapphires have chosen a project aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.” She noted that this project addresses chronic water shortages affecting daily operations.
Chairperson Professor Kofi Abotsi highlighted that water shortages are common in Cape Coast schools. He stressed that sanitation is crucial for girls’ schools and urged everyone to participate in this important initiative.
Mrs. Charlotte Okai-Tettey unveiled the 80th Anniversary Patrons: Isabel Boaten, Nana Odom, Lawrencia Adams, Justina Laing, Juliet Ofeibea Maneaw-Kutin, Stella Afua Adu, and Cynthia Lumor. Other patrons include Justice Adelaide Abui Keddey and Rosemary Beryl Archer.
Pledges of support came from various HOPSA groups spanning multiple years. The Sapphires expressed gratitude to individuals like Sheila Akyea and John Colin Villars for their support.
Mr. Ibrahim Mahama attended as a special guest and pledged full support for the project. He emphasized the importance of maintenance for sustainability and offered his team’s assistance in implementation.
The Sapphires are committed to collaborating with all stakeholders while seeking more patrons and benefactors for careful planning and execution of the project. This initiative reflects Holy Child School's values of sustainability and community leadership.
Following the launch of this legacy project, a call has been made to alumni, parents, friends of Holy Child School, HOPSANs, and Corporate Ghana to contribute towards making next year's anniversary successful.
