Victor Adawudu is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Legal Team. He criticized the Ghana Bar Association's (GBA) call to revoke Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension. He described their demand as biased and unjustified.
The GBA urged President John Mahama to reverse the suspension. They claimed it was unconstitutional and threatened judicial independence. The Association argued that Mahama’s use of discretionary power lacked legal backing. They pointed out that there was no Constitutional Instrument or Regulation, as required by Article 296.
Adawudu spoke in an exclusive interview on Channel One Newsroom on April 29. He questioned why the GBA was involved in this matter. He noted that the Association has been silent on many important national issues over the years.
He insisted that President Mahama followed due process regarding the Chief Justice's suspension. Adawudu stated that similar procedures were used for former Chief Justices George Kingsley Acquah and Georgina Theodora Wood.
He strongly disagreed with the GBA, accusing them of bias influenced by politics. "As a member of GBA, I disagree with some of their statements," he said. He emphasized that Article 146 is not new and has been tested before.
Adawudu added, "If GBA thinks something different should be done, they are wrong." He believes their judgment has been colored by bias and political influence.
