‘I’m done talking to the A-G’ – Atta Akyea on Adu-Boahen case

Kwabena Adu-Boahen's lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, has made a statement. He will no longer communicate privately with Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine. This decision is due to concerns about leaks and political manipulation.

Atta Akyea spoke to journalists after a court hearing on May 2. He expressed worries that private discussions could be misrepresented for propaganda. “I’m careful lest I have a phone conversation,” he said.

He noted that he has a cordial relationship with Dr. Ayine. However, the risk of conversations being distorted or recorded is too high. “Somebody might even leak a tape,” he added.

When asked if he had cut off communication with the Attorney General, Atta Akyea confirmed it. “For now, I don’t believe I should be discussing anything with the Attorney General,” he stated.

These comments came after a court decision to remand Adu-Boahen in custody for seven days. The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) requested more time to prepare witness statements. This request drew criticism from the defense team.

Atta Akyea described the prosecution as rushed and unfair. He called the delay in evidence gathering a “travesty of justice.” He emphasized that they lack evidence but still rush Adu-Boahen to court.

The case is set to resume on May 13.
