I suffered a sextape extortion during the 2020 campaign – Tangoba opens up

Tangoba Abayage, the New Patriotic Party's candidate for Navrongo Central in 2020, has shared her experience with sextape extortion during the campaign.

In a Facebook post, she explained that she received a call from a financier. This person rarely contacted her but was trusted. He informed her that Emelda Kumbono was claiming to have her sextape.

Kumbono allegedly demanded Ghc 50,000 to keep the tape from leaking online. Tangoba felt shocked and angry upon hearing this news.

Her financier doubted the truth of Kumbono's claims due to inconsistencies in her story.

"I PROMISED TO ONE DAY WRITE ABOUT ME AND SEX TAPES."

During the 2020 campaign, I was busy traveling around my constituency. One day, I received a serious call from a major financier.

He asked if I knew Emelda Kumbono. I said no, which surprised him. He claimed she seemed to know me well, but I had never met her.

Then he revealed that Kumbono was contacting my sponsors about having sex tapes of me. She demanded money to keep it quiet and had met with them multiple times.

I screamed in disbelief: “What? You believed such nonsense?” I was both shocked and angry. I told him to let her post those videos online and make them go viral.

Eventually, they discovered it was all a lie or a misunderstanding on Kumbono’s part. My financier didn’t know much about me beyond my political work and feared this rumor might damage my reputation.

He wanted to resolve the issue quickly once they realized she was lying.

Interestingly, it wasn’t just one tape; there were multiple tapes mentioned!

One ridiculous claim involved someone named Tiny—a musician—being in one of the tapes. When I heard this name, I thought: "Am I really that pathetic?"

Apparently, Kumbono had already scammed some people close to me while I remained unaware of what was happening.

Why would there be sex tapes about me? Under what circumstances? I've never engaged in any behavior that could lead to such things! I'm responsible and know what I want in life.

Yet this young woman tried to exploit my name without any shame.

To this day, I don’t know who she is or what happened with those supposed "sex tapes."

LESSON:

As a woman in politics where everything is sexualized, expect reckless attacks like these. Be prepared to defend yourself publicly and protect your image.

Don’t let hearsay affect you too much; having sex may be morally questionable but isn’t usually illegal.
