I understand your sentiments-Bawumia to NPP supporters

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the NPP's presidential candidate for 2024. He recently spoke to party supporters during the Thank You Tour. He discussed why the NPP lost the 2024 elections.

Dr. Bawumia agreed with supporters about several reasons for the defeat. He noted that actions and inactions of the previous government angered many people, including NPP supporters.

He said, "Many people have ascribed reasons why we lost." Some believe it was a spiritual issue, but he disagrees. He pointed out that rising living costs and arrogance contributed to their loss.

He highlighted specific issues like the e-levy and debt exchange project. Supporters applauded his comments on these topics.

"We faced high living costs and refused to listen," he stated. The party had requested a reshuffle, but they ignored it for eight years. Ghanaians opposed the e-levy, yet they proceeded anyway.

Dr. Bawumia mentioned that there are about 16 million mobile money users. Ignoring their concerns led to backlash against the party.

He also addressed pensioners affected by debt restructuring decisions. The party initially promised no haircut for bondholders but later changed course, impacting around 800,000 people.

Additionally, he criticized the lack of support for youth programs like NABCO and afforestation initiatives. They failed to pay NABCO workers, numbering about 100,000, effectively canceling the program.

The youth in afforestation were also neglected; around 75,000 did not receive payment either.

Dr. Bawumia pointed out poor handling of key projects in some regions too. The national cathedral project was particularly controversial due to its slow progress despite significant funding.

Looking ahead, he urged all party members to unite and work hard together. He emphasized addressing challenges identified by the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee.
