Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has criticized President John Dramani Mahama. He believes the President's response to Sammy Gyamfi's controversy was weak.
Agyapong spoke at the Entrepreneurship and National Leadership programme on May 15, 2025. He said Mahama should have quickly dismissed Gyamfi after a video surfaced. The video showed Gyamfi giving an undisclosed amount of US dollars to evangelist Nana Agradaa.
“If I were the President, I would have sacked Sammy Gyamfi right away,” Agyapong stated. He argued that the evidence was clear and no investigation was needed. This action would have sent a strong message.
He accused the government of nepotism and favoritism. Agyapong believes these issues are harming the country's development. He noted that political connections now dictate who succeeds, even in national service placements.
“Today, if you don’t know a politician, you can’t get a good national service posting,” he lamented. Young graduates often need to pay or lobby for respectable positions. “This is wrong,” he added.
Agyapong warned that such practices lead to unqualified individuals in sensitive roles. He described this as a serious threat to national progress.
The video of Gyamfi and Agradaa sparked public outrage and raised concerns about legal violations. Despite pressure from the public, President Mahama has only issued a cautionary statement regarding Gyamfi's actions.
