Edudzi Tamakloe is the CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). He is optimistic about fighting illegal mining.
He believes the president is committed to addressing this challenge. Tamakloe stated, “I am confident that President Mahama will fight this.” He noted that galamsey has been a problem for eight years.
Tamakloe understands that Ghanaians want more action. He assured them that efforts will increase to combat illegal mining. On TV3's Key Points, he said, “People want more, but they are not sleeping on the job.”
The galamsey issue has dominated political discussions since the NDC took power. Reports suggest some members have taken over forest reserves and water bodies for mining.
The government has made several efforts to tackle this issue. However, it remains a difficult task due to those involved.
