Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to reassign all police commanders stationed in mining areas, effective immediately.
The move targets officers who have failed to curb illegal mining (galamsey).
Under the new policy, commanders will be relocated to non-mining zones, while fresh appointees will have three months to prove their effectiveness.
Those who fall short will also face reassignment.
Speaking in Kumasi during a meeting with Imams and Zongo Chiefs, Muntaka reaffirmed his commitment to stamping out illegal mining, acknowledging the pressure on the IGP.
He stressed that leadership changes would continue until significant progress is made in the fight against galamsey.
