International contemporary arts project: UNFOLDING CULTURAL HERITAGE

Unfolding Cultural Heritage Project

Unfolding Cultural Heritage is an international project. It involves Ramdom, Bibliomuseum Center of Lecce, and Artlife Matters. The project is funded by the Apulia Region.

This initiative connects Salento in Italy with Greater Accra in Ghana. It includes art residencies, cultural exchanges, and training programs. Collaborative workshops aim to uncover and reimagine intangible heritage through the arts.

The project promotes dialogue among cultural professionals, artists, and local communities. It highlights contemporary arts as tools for intercultural exchange and community engagement. This aligns with the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

The initiative aims to build capacities in cultural sectors. It supports the reinterpretation of oral heritage and social impact initiatives for youth and families. The project also encourages using digital technologies for storytelling.

The first step includes online training with four thematic workshops. These workshops are open to freelancers and organizations from Europe and Africa. Topics include:

1. Museums and Libraries in the 2030 Agenda
2. Arts for Enhancing Intangible Heritage
3. Community Engagement
4. New Technologies and Narratives

Artistic residencies will involve two Italian artists and two Ghanaian artists. They will explore traditional practices across disciplines. Their work will produce a children’s illustrated book, a digital archive, and a collective mural inspired by Ghanaian “talking drums.”

The residency in Ghana will take place in Tutu village for six days. Activities will include workshops in schools, creative labs on folklore, and co-creation sessions.

This project is supported by the National Folklore Board and the Centre for National Culture in Greater Accra. An open international call invites institutions to contribute to its vision.
