Joyce Bawa backs Mahama’s plan to revive Ghana’s national airline

Joyce Bawa Mogtari, a Presidential Adviser to John Mahama, supports the push for a national airline. She believes this step is overdue and vital for Ghana's pride and economy.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, she emphasized the importance of a national carrier. Ghana's location in West Africa makes it ideal for trade and tourism. However, lacking a reliable airline limits growth opportunities.

Her comments follow President Mahama’s inauguration of a 10-member Task Force. This group aims to fulfill a key promise to restore the national airline by 2024.

The proposal has sparked debate across the country. Some Ghanaians want a fully government-owned airline. Others prefer a public-private partnership for better efficiency.

Joyce Bawa stressed the need for good governance in building the airline. A well-managed carrier could improve international connectivity and create jobs. It would also foster skill development in sectors like tourism and logistics.

She noted that direct routes would lower travel costs and time for everyone. This would make Ghana more competitive as a regional gateway.

Beyond economic benefits, she sees the airline as a symbol of national pride. It reflects Ghana’s commitment to growth and global integration.

“The time has come to realize this vision with clarity and discipline,” she concluded.

Ghana's past attempts at operating airlines ended poorly, leaving no flag carrier for over ten years. With new steps from President Mahama’s administration, discussions about Ghana’s aviation future are reigniting.
