KMA backs Zoomlion’s waste management initiative to transform Kumasi

The Environment sub-committee of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is optimistic. They believe Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s equipment can improve waste management in Greater Kumasi.

During a recent visit to Zoomlion's assembly sites, Committee Chairman Abraham Boadi spoke about this potential. He emphasized that skip tricycles could greatly enhance Kumasi's waste management system. “We plan to engage with the General Assembly for proper implementation,” Mr. Boadi stated.

He mentioned that distributing this equipment across the five sub-metros in Ashanti Region would be beneficial. The KMA delegation included 14 members who inspected logistics preparations by Zoomlion.

They visited three key sites: JSA Logistics Warehouse in Tema, JA Plant Pool, and Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP) in Adjen Kotoku, Accra. Mr. Boadi expressed hope for strong collaboration between the Assembly and Zoomlion to address sanitation challenges.

Metro Environmental Health Officer Kwaku Poku was also part of the delegation. He found the visit enlightening and encouraging. “Seeing the equipment firsthand has shown us its potential impact,” he said.

Mr. Poku highlighted that self-loading tricycles are ideal for congested areas like markets and densely populated communities. He believes these logistics can help tackle Kumasi's waste crisis effectively.

Senior Public Health Engineer Wiafe Akenten Oduro praised Zoomlion’s commitment to waste management. He noted their innovations have improved services nationwide and created jobs for many Ghanaians.

“Without their initiatives, many people might still be unemployed,” Mr. Oduro remarked. He called on all Ghanaians to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.

“Waste management is a shared responsibility,” he stressed, urging everyone to maintain a healthy environment.
