Kwesi Botchway Jnr is a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communication team. He released a statement about the stabbing of a KNUST student. This incident occurred during a party event at the Pentecost Church in Bantama, Kumasi.
There was speculation that the victim was attacked due to his support for Kennedy Agyapong. Botchway Jnr dismissed these claims as misleading and politically motivated. He stated, “The gentleman was not stabbed because he is a ‘Ken supporter.’”
According to him, the stabbing happened after a scuffle with another student. This altercation followed an incident involving money given to the Conti boys by a local car dealer known as Maxxi.
Botchway emphasized that this incident had no connection to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia or his supporters. He noted there is no evidence supporting claims of political rivalry as the motive.
“There is no basis to say he was stabbed by a Bawumia supporter,” he clarified. The conflict appears to have been over money rather than politics.
He questioned why a Jama group was involved in a political “Thank You” tour. He asked, “Who brings Conti boys to a thank you tour? For what purpose exactly?”
Botchway accused some individuals of trying to discredit the tour using this incident. He called their efforts a “staged attempt” that would ultimately fail.
He insisted that the stabbing should be treated as an isolated case and properly investigated by police. Botchway confirmed he was present at the venue during the event.
He expressed well wishes for the injured student and urged party members to protect NPP's image. “The propaganda won’t do us any good,” he said, encouraging everyone to safeguard their party's reputation.
The victim remains hospitalized at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Police investigations are ongoing, but no arrests have been made yet.
