Kennedy Agyapong, a former MP for Assin Central, has stepped up. He is offering to be a surety for Bernard Antwi Boasiako. Boasiako is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He is also known as Chairman Wontumi.
Wontumi's legal team seeks a GHS50 million bail bond. He is under investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). This investigation involves financial dealings with EXIM Bank.
Andy Appiah-Kubi, Wontumi’s lead counsel, spoke to Citi News. He expressed confidence in meeting the bail conditions. These conditions include providing two sureties by the end of the day.
Kwesi Opoku confirmed Agyapong’s support on May 28. Opoku is the NPP Chairman for Tema West and supports Agyapong's presidential bid. He stated that Agyapong voluntarily offered to be a surety.
Opoku explained that Appiah-Kubi informed Agyapong about the bail conditions. They were told that those not involved should come forward as sureties. As of now, Wontumi remains in custody while this process unfolds.
