The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) announced that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has cancer. This information came from a medical report submitted by his legal team. They used this report to explain why he could not attend questioning related to ongoing investigations.
On June 2, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng confirmed the diagnosis. Mr. Ofori-Atta's lawyers sent a letter on May 28, 2025, about his condition and treatment plans. However, Agyebeng stated that their excuse does not justify his absence. The OSP has not received any health status report from them.
In the letter, Mr. Ofori-Atta's lawyer mentioned that treatment is scheduled for June 13, 2025. They claimed this change had been communicated to the court previously.
Due to his failure to appear as directed, the OSP declared him a wanted person and a fugitive from justice. The Special Prosecutor emphasized that they will not accept selective compliance in this case.
Agyebeng insisted on Mr. Ofori-Atta's physical presence for questioning. He stated that suspects cannot dictate how investigations are conducted or choose their level of participation. The office will not tolerate such behavior in this matter.
