Ken Ofori-Atta was never a target until power changed hands – Amidu fires OSP

Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has sharply criticized the current Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He claims that Kissi Agyebeng's leadership is marked by politicized law enforcement and opportunism. This criticism follows the OSP's renewed interest in Ken Ofori-Atta.

Amidu argues that this focus on Ofori-Atta comes long after he left government. He believes it is a strategy to gain favor with the new administration and secure funding.

Amidu stated, “The Special Prosecutor, William Kissi Agyebeng, informed Parliament on oath during his vetting that he would investigate the Agyapa Royalty Transaction Report.” This report was authored by the OSP on October 15, 2020. However, Amidu claims this investigation never happened under Agyebeng’s watch.

He suggests that not investigating the Agyapa deal benefited the previous government, where Ofori-Atta played a key role. Amidu also noted that Ofori-Atta was never summoned during his time in office despite corruption allegations.

“Ken Ofori-Atta was never invited to assist investigations until January 24, 2025,” he said. By then, there had been a change in government. Amidu believes this timing meant Ofori-Atta could no longer help financially with the OSP's budget.

He argues that labeling Ofori-Atta as a suspect was a media strategy to damage his reputation. “This ruse of inviting Ken Ofori-Atta as a suspect presumed innocent was played out in the media,” Amidu said. He believes it created a public presumption of guilt against him.

With a new government in place and Agyebeng’s appointing President out of office, Amidu sees a shift in priorities at the OSP. He concludes that Agyebeng is trying to ingratiate himself with the new administration for more funding at taxpayers' expense.
