A press conference was recently held by a group called the “Concerned and Aggrieved Youth of the NDC.” They addressed the delay in selecting a District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kpandai District. This event has been condemned by another group, the Real Concerned Youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
On April 21, the Real Concerned Youth held their own press conference. It took place at the constituency party office in Kpandai. They clarified that their goal was not to attack anyone. Instead, they aimed to promote unity within the NDC.
The youth, led by Janfour Benipoumchie, emphasized their commitment to party integrity. They stated that only the President can appoint a DCE. The Real Concerned Youth believe that he can choose any qualified member from three shortlisted candidates.
Janfour reminded everyone that 17 members applied for the DCE position. When three names were announced, 14 aspirants did not protest. He questioned why those who are now protesting did not respect this process as well.
He criticized derogatory language used against party leadership. Terms like "weak" and "unpopular" were deemed unfortunate and misleading. He urged colleagues to stop personal attacks and focus on unity instead.
The youth also condemned an attack on Constituency Chairman Mr. Kwame Bawa during a previous press conference. They described this attack as unnecessary and disrespectful.
They criticized calls for Mr. Bawa's resignation as serving only individual interests, not those of the masses. Accusations against him do not reflect NDC values, they argued.
Janfour expressed concern over threats made regarding DCE selection outcomes. He questioned how individuals from losing polling stations could threaten party leadership.
The Real Concerned Youth assured regional and national leaders that their views represent most NDC members in Kpandai. They dismissed claims from self-proclaimed aggrieved youth as unrepresentative.
They expressed confidence in the strength of the NDC in Kpandai and called for a supportive DCE appointment aligned with President Mahama’s agenda.
The youth reiterated support for careful decision-making by national leadership regarding MMDCE appointments. They acknowledged ongoing consultations before selecting suitable candidates.
In conclusion, they called for unity within the party and urged focus on collective success rather than individual interests. They pledged support for any appointed DCE who is an NDC member.
Finally, they asked party executives to disregard statements from allegedly aggrieved youth as misleading and selfish.
