Kuipers Breeders marks two years since first Ghana Hatch

This month is a big milestone for Ghana’s poultry sector. Kuipers Breeders Hatchery celebrates its 2nd anniversary of chick hatching. The hatchery is located in Amuyawkope, Sege, in the Ada West District. It plays a vital role in Ghana’s goal for poultry self-sufficiency.

The hatchery began construction in 2022 and started production in 2023. It spans 200 acres and features advanced incubation technology. The facility also has automated environmental controls and strong biosecurity systems. These elements ensure healthy, high-quality chicks for farmers across the country.

Kuipers Breeders Hatchery is a sister company to De Heus, known locally as Koudijs Animal Nutrition. It was established to strengthen Ghana’s poultry value chain. De Heus first entered the market with feed solutions before expanding into hatchery operations.

Just 18 weeks after starting operations, the hatchery delivered its first batch of chicks. This milestone set the pace for impressive production growth. In its first year (2023), it produced 2,114,119 chicks. By the next year, production more than doubled to 5,198,684 chicks.

This growth shows increasing trust in the brand and rising demand for local chicks. Improved delivery logistics and technical support are enhancing production efficiency. The hatchery aims to reduce reliance on poultry imports, which make up 95% of consumption in Ghana.

Moses Yaw Maidoo, General Manager, stated that the hatchery uses European standards for chicken rearing in Ghana. This benefits all stakeholders from farmers to consumers. Kuipers Breeders focuses on sustainability without relying on imported day-old chicks.

By using world-class technologies locally, they support Ghanaian farmers and strengthen the economy. CEO Jurjen Kuipers emphasized their commitment to quality products and services. They are proud to contribute to Ghana’s agricultural transformation.

As they reflect on two years of operations, Kuipers Breeders looks ahead with determination. They aim to raise poultry standards and improve rural farming incomes while supporting national agricultural goals.
