Kwabena Agyepong Slams OSP Over Ken Ofori-Atta Probe, Calls Actions “PR Stunt”

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He condemned its handling of investigations involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Agyepong questioned the OSP’s legal and ethical approach. He accused it of conducting a “public and media trial” instead of following due process. He noted that no formal charges have been filed against Mr. Ofori-Atta. This means he is neither an accused person nor a fugitive under the law.

“If the OSP has evidence, why hasn’t he charged Ken?” Agyepong asked. “People have been tried in absentia before. Does he need Ken’s physical presence to do his job?”

He argued that only a court can declare someone a fugitive, not the Special Prosecutor. Agyepong criticized what he called the OSP’s attempt to gain public sympathy for his office.

“This is clearly a PR stunt,” he said. He believes it justifies an office that should not exist and wastes public funds. Agyepong suggested that Ken Ofori-Atta’s legal team should ignore this process.

He also questioned the OSP’s past actions, noting that the prosecutor worked abroad due to alleged threats against his life. “If he could work outside at our expense, then he can reach Ken,” Agyepong stated.

While supporting accountability, Agyepong warned against “Rambo-style invasions” disguised as investigations. He wants those who misbehave in government to face consequences lawfully and with dignity.

“Not through politically motivated tactics that undermine the rule of law,” he stressed. In closing, Agyepong expressed party solidarity: “We will not condone moves that damage our party's brand for political gain.”
