Launch of Code of Conduct signals the death of State Capture – Ablakwa

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa believes the new Code of Conduct for Government Officials marks the end of state capture.

Ghana's President, John Dramani Mahama, launched this code as part of his 120-day social contract with the people.

The Code of Conduct will guide how appointees behave as public officers.

In a social media post, Ablakwa noted that appointees cannot buy state assets directly or indirectly. He sees this as a victory for his anti-state capture advocacy while in opposition.

He wrote, "Great news for Ghana. President Mahama has launched a Code of Conduct for government officials. This prohibits appointees from buying state assets directly or indirectly."

President Mahama stated that any appointee who violates this code will be fired and have their asset retrieved.

State assets include lands, bungalows, hotels, cars, forests, and more.

Ablakwa expressed his delight that their efforts in opposition continue to resonate with the Ghanaian people.

He added that this new Code supports his Private Member’s Bill in Parliament. This bill seeks to ban politically exposed persons from purchasing state assets.

He concluded with a strong statement: "State Capture is dead! God bless President Mahama."
