Linda Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, has made serious accusations. She claims some shortlisted Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) aspirants are influencing assembly members. This influence is aimed at voting against presidential nominees.
Her comments came after the Shai Osudoku District Assembly rejected Ignatius Godfred Dordoe. Dordoe was the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive. He received only 17 out of 32 votes, which was not enough for confirmation.
Ocloo spoke to journalists in Accra on Monday, May 5. She issued a strong warning: “If assemblies fail to confirm the President’s nominees, no new candidates will be considered.”
She added that if anyone tries to instigate others not to vote for nominees, they are mistaken. “If you think being shortlisted guarantees an appointment, it’s a lie,” she said.
Ocloo emphasized that those who do not support the nominee will also be overlooked for appointments. “Even if we have to reappoint someone, we will look elsewhere,” she stated.
She assured that they would continue to present the candidate repeatedly if necessary. “Even if it takes a thousand times, we will re-present the candidate,” she concluded.
