Linda Ocloo threatens dismissal of appointees over rejected MMDCE nominees

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has issued a warning. She stated that some government appointees at the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) may lose their positions. This follows the rejection of certain nominees for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

Ocloo explained that many of the President’s nominees did not receive enough votes. She attributed this to sabotage by some assembly members appointed by the government. While addressing the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, she emphasized the importance of supporting presidential nominees.

She said, “Government appointees should confirm the President's nominee.” Ocloo warned that those who do not fulfill their duties risk losing their appointments. “We are going to revoke appointments if you are not fulfilling your business,” she added.

Despite her warnings, the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly voted against Felix Odartey Lamptey’s nomination as Municipal Chief Executive. Lamptey is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the area. He received only 9 out of 19 votes and did not meet the two-thirds threshold needed for confirmation.

This outcome disappointed many residents who had gathered at the assembly premises. Many expressed frustration over Lamptey's rejection as nominee.
