The Local Government Service Workers’ Union (LGSWU) has distanced itself from the ongoing strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).
CLOGSAG initiated the strike on February 20, 2025, protesting the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, which it claims is politically motivated.
The association has called on the Presidency to revoke his appointment, citing a Supreme Court ruling against civil servants engaging in partisan politics.
However, in a statement on February 21, LGSWU clarified that it will not participate, citing an ongoing legal case.
The union has directed its members to remain at post, following consultations with its national and regional leadership.
