Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice was based on the grounds of personal dislike- Rev. Ntim Fordjour

Rev. Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, believes the president suspended the Chief Justice due to personal dislike.

He argues that the reasons for suspending Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo are unfounded.

In a tweet on X, he stated, “You may not be the first President to remove a Chief Justice for personal reasons. However, this is not a noble precedent.”

Fordjour thinks the president aims to replace her with someone politically compliant. He warns that this undermines good governance and threatens Ghana’s democracy.

“The independence of the Judiciary is crucial for our democratic integrity,” he said. He added that replacing the Chief Justice with a politically compliant individual is dangerous.

Ntim Fordjour has called on Ghanaians to oppose this attack on democracy.

In his statement, he criticized the president's actions under his reset agenda. He noted that many public sector jobs have been terminated due to political motivations.

He emphasized that removing the Chief Justice reveals much about the president's true intentions.

Fordjour urged civil society organizations, faith-based groups, and diplomats to resist these actions strongly.

He warned against allowing this situation to become another negative mark in the president's record within 120 days in office.

Let’s protect our democracy!
