President John Mahama has appointed Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka as the Acting National Security Minister, consolidating both roles to improve coordination in the security sector.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin announced the decision on March 7, 2025, citing Section 24 of the Securities and Intelligence Act 2020 (Act 1030).
The move comes amid heightened government efforts to tackle emerging security threats and streamline operations.
President Mahama has already undertaken structural reforms, dissolving several ministries, including National Security, Information, and Sanitation and Water Resources, in line with his vision for a leaner administration.
Muntaka’s expanded role is expected to enhance efficiency within Ghana’s security framework while aligning with the president’s cost-cutting measures.
