President John Dramani Mahama has warned against treating the Hajj pilgrimage as a profit-making venture, stressing that any surplus funds should benefit Zongo communities.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for a new Hajj Village on February 28, he emphasized that Hajj is a religious obligation, not a business.
Mahama disclosed that a task force, led by Alhaji Collins Dauda, had been set up to oversee preparations before forming a formal Hajj Board.
To ease participation, the 2025 Hajj fee was reduced from GHS 75,000 to GHS 62,000.
The task force has also introduced measures to assist fully paid pilgrims with passport acquisition. He urged all prospective pilgrims and agents to complete their payments before the March 13 deadline.
