President-elect John Mahama has criticized Ghana’s economic health, countering outgoing President Akufo-Addo’s optimistic take on third-quarter growth.
According to Mahama, the economy remains “very sick,” requiring immediate attention.
Speaking after a meeting with the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Mahama also expressed deep concern over inefficiencies in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
He highlighted unsustainable commercial and technical losses of 32%, warning that these challenges threaten the success of debt exchange efforts and the IMF program.
“No utility company can survive with such losses and remain viable,” Mahama stated, emphasizing the need for urgent reforms in the energy sector.
He pledged that an incoming NDC government would prioritize overhauling the electricity value chain to enhance efficiency and ensure a sustainable power supply for Ghana’s future.
