Mahama declares July 1 as National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a new celebration. July 1, Ghana’s Republic Day, will now also be National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

At the event's planning committee inauguration, President Mahama spoke about peace in Ghana. He said this peace is due to divine grace and religious harmony.

He noted, “One of Ghana's greatest blessings is our faith harmony.” Christians, Muslims, and traditionalists worship differently but unite as one people. This unity is a national treasure we must cherish.

“In a world where religion divides, we shine with unity,” he added. He declared that July 1 will now be a day for prayer and thanksgiving.

The newly formed committee will organize the observance. It is chaired by Elvis Afriyie Ankrah. He emphasized the day's importance for reflection and gratitude.

“The national day of thanksgiving belongs to all Ghanaians,” he stated. He hopes their work will make Ghana proud and inspire other nations.

This declaration aims to foster unity and faith-based solidarity among Ghanaians. The nation continues to uphold its legacy of peaceful coexistence.
