President John Mahama has given Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo a 10-day deadline to respond to three petitions seeking her removal from office.
A letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, confirmed that the Chief Justice requested copies of the petitions on March 27.
The petitions, submitted on February 14 and March 17, allege misconduct and abuse of power. Following constitutional procedures, Mahama consulted the Council of State, which approved the process on March 27 before forwarding the petitions to Torkornoo for her response.
However, concerns arose over a leaked letter from the Chief Justice, circulated on social media before the President reviewed it. Under Article 146, a committee will be formed if a prima facie case is established.
