Mahama gives dancer money; clarifies it’s GH₵500, not dollars

President John Dramani Mahama addressed the recent dollar gift controversy. This involved Sammy Gyamfi, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

During his Thank You Tour, Mahama made a similar gesture. On May 16, he stopped at the Old Ghanata Astroturf in Dodowa. There, he handed money to a dancer who performed at the event.

Afterward, Mahama spoke to supporters. He clarified that he gave GH₵500, not U.S. dollars. “To put on record that the money I have was GH₵500 not dollars,” he stated.

His comments came after public criticism of Gyamfi's actions. Gyamfi had gifted U.S. dollars to priestess-turned-evangelist Patricia Asiama. Many viewed this as inappropriate and raised concerns about public office conduct.

Following backlash, Gyamfi apologized for his actions. Mahama accepted the apology but urged him to exercise better judgment in the future.
