Captain (Rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, a lawyer and politician, is calling for action against Sammy Gyamfi. Gyamfi is the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He recently gave a dollar gift to Nana Agradaa.
Effah Dartey spoke on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem. He criticized Gyamfi's gesture as "needless" and "inappropriate." He believes this act undermines President John Mahama’s commitment to the Code of Conduct for public appointees.
“Sammy Gyamfi wants to test the President on the Code of Conduct,” Effah Dartey said. He questioned if campaign promises were serious or just temporary.
He urged the president to act quickly. This would show that his administration does not tolerate actions that harm public trust or economic stability. “Anyone who hears this knows Sammy Gyamfi’s action is unacceptable,” he stated.
Despite Gyamfi's public apology and a summons by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Effah Dartey doubts there will be real consequences. He noted Gyamfi's influence within the NDC may protect him.
“Whether the President will act is another matter,” he warned. If no action is taken, it suggests that the Code of Conduct lacks real authority.
Effah Dartey acknowledged human imperfection but stressed accountability is vital for good governance. “We are all fallible, but laws exist to guide us,” he said.
He questioned what message it sends if someone like Gyamfi can break rules without repercussions. The incident has gone viral, showing Gyamfi giving what Agradaa claimed was an $800 fuel gift.
