Mahama promotes new military chiefs for GAF leadership transition

President John Mahama has confirmed the promotion of senior Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) officers, including the incoming Chief of Defence Staff and other Service Chiefs, effective March 24, 2025.

The announcement, signed by Minister of State for Government Communication Felix Kwakye Ofosu, follows recommendations from the Armed Forces Council to ensure a seamless transition of command.

The newly elevated officers include Major General William Agyapong (Chief of Defence Staff), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu (Chief of Army Staff), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing (Chief of Naval Staff), Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong (Chief of Air Staff), and Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai (Chief of Staff).

President Mahama, after consulting the Council of State, urged them to uphold national security with dedication and unity.
