Godfred Bokpin has highlighted differences in economic management styles. He praised the Mahama-led government for its coordination between fiscal and monetary institutions.
In an interview with Naa Dedei Tettey on Morning Starr, he discussed the recent appreciation of the Ghana cedi. He argued that it is not solely due to policies from the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
Bokpin credited the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana for this stability. He noted their synchronized efforts as crucial to the currency's current performance.
“There’s intentionality from the fiscal side,” he said. “The Minister of Finance and Bank of Ghana have strong backing from the President.”
He contrasted this with the previous administration, which lacked coordination between government and central bank.
His comments challenge former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's claims about gold reserves policy. Bokpin insisted that current alignment is vital for economic recovery.
While he acknowledged that transformative changes are still needed, he emphasized strategic cohesion as essential for stabilizing the economy.
“There’s a direction and focus in their approach,” he stated. “So we cannot say they have not done anything.”
