Mahama suspends CJ, sets Gabriel Pwamang committee to probe her

President John Dramani Mahama has suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. This decision follows a prima facie case against her from three separate petitions.

The President's action aligns with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution. He consulted with the Council of State before proceeding. This suspension is part of a formal investigation into the allegations.

A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the petitions. The committee is chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang. Other members include Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Major Flora Bazwaannura Dalugo, and Prof James Sefah Dzisah.

According to Article 146(10) of the Constitution, President Mahama issued a warrant for immediate suspension. This suspension will remain until the committee concludes its proceedings.

The announcement was made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications.
