President John Dramani Mahama announced the release of the first quarter of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
This decision comes after criticism from the Minority. They accused the Finance Minister of withholding funds from key institutions. This has happened despite legal obligations and available resources. Nearly six months have passed since the new administration began.
During his Thank-You tour in Bono East, President Mahama issued a warning. He said that Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) must use allocated resources effectively. Failure to do so could lead to their dismissal.
“The Minister of Finance will soon release the first quarter of DACF,” he stated. “Eighty percent of this money goes directly to regions for your use.” He emphasized that MMDCEs have no excuses for mismanagement.
“We will provide guidelines approved at our last Cabinet meeting,” he added. These guidelines will show how funds should be disbursed. They will also serve as Key Performance Indicators for MMDCEs.
“Every year, we will assess your performance based on these indicators,” he explained. “This assessment will determine whether you stay or go.”
President Mahama is expected to continue his regional tour in Bono Region on May 30.
