Majority rejects calls to summon Sam George over radio shutdowns

The Majority in Parliament has dismissed demands to summon Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George over the recent closure of seven radio stations.

A media advisory from the ministry confirmed that the stations were shut down for operating without valid frequency authorization, violating the Electronic Communications Act.

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga defended the minister, arguing he was only enforcing the law and questioning why his competence was being challenged.

He insisted that stations must comply with licensing regulations, warning that unauthorized ones would continue to face closure.

The government also shut down Gumah FM in Bawku over national security concerns.

Ayariga stressed that licensed stations remain unaffected, urging the affected ones to seek proper authorization.
