Legal practitioner and ORAL Committee member, Martin Kpebu, has called for urgent reforms to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) law, arguing that its current structure grants excessive power to the Special Prosecutor, limiting transparency and accountability.
Speaking on Citi FM, Kpebu criticized the law’s design, stating that it allows the Special Prosecutor to solely decide which cases to investigate, sidelining other senior officials.
He revealed that his findings on the ground exposed systemic flaws that hinder the OSP’s effectiveness, blaming the previous administration for weakening the institution.
Kpebu urged President Mahama to amend the law to ensure all directors within the OSP have oversight on petitions, preventing unilateral decision-making.
His remarks have reignited debate on the need for legislative reforms to enhance the OSP’s role in tackling corruption.
