A nationwide immigration crackdown on Sunday saw 956 arrests, marking the largest single-day operation since Donald Trump returned to office, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The raids, targeting cities like Chicago, Miami, and Newark, involved multiple federal agencies with expanded detention powers.
Trump, who campaigned on mass deportations, has issued 21 executive actions to reshape U.S. immigration policies.
In Miami, ICE detained undocumented migrants, sparking outrage. A man reported his wife, pursuing citizenship, was detained without warning.
Similarly, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka accused ICE of detaining residents unlawfully, including a military veteran.
Despite criticism from advocates and Democratic leaders, Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, defended the operations, emphasizing deportation efforts for public safety and national security threats.
The weekend raids brought total arrests to over 2,300.
