Michael Okyere Baafi debunks claims on cement price reduction

Former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Michael Okyere Baafi, has denied claims from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The NDC stated that cement prices have dropped to GH₵82.

In a statement on Facebook, Mr. Baafi insisted that cement prices remain unchanged. He said the government has not discussed pricing with manufacturers.

“Ghana operates a free market economy,” he noted. Prices are determined by market forces, not political tricks.

He mentioned that the recent appreciation of the cedi could allow for price reductions. However, he accused the NDC of spreading misinformation instead.

Mr. Baafi encouraged producers to use the stronger cedi to benefit consumers. He called for leadership that promotes transparency and accountability.

“Ghana deserves truth, stability, and affordable prices,” he stressed. The focus should be on real solutions rather than propaganda.
