The Minority Caucus in Parliament is calling for an urgent investigation. They want to look into the medical qualifications of Dr. Ann Sansa Daly. She is a television host whose appointment to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Board was revoked by President John Dramani Mahama.
In a letter signed by Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Health Committee, they have given the Ghana Medical and Dental Council (GMDC) one week to clarify Dr. Daly’s status. This demand comes amid growing public scrutiny over her professional background.
Concerns have been raised about whether she is qualified to present herself as a medical doctor in Ghana. The Minority seeks answers to three key questions:
1. Is Dr. Ann Sansa Daly currently registered and licensed by the GMDC?
2. Has she ever been registered with the GMDC, either temporarily or permanently?
3. Do GMDC regulations allow unregistered individuals to present themselves as doctors?
Dr. Afriyie stated that they expect the GMDC to verify her status locally and consult with its counterpart agency in the United States, where Dr. Daly claims to have practiced.
“This inquiry is not politically motivated,” emphasized Dr. Afriyie. “It concerns public interest, professional accountability, and our health institutions' integrity.”
President Mahama revoked Dr. Daly’s NHIA Board appointment after backlash on social media and from civil society groups questioning her qualifications.
The Minority Caucus insists that transparency is vital for maintaining public trust in healthcare governance and ensuring only qualified professionals are involved.
