Minority Leader demands immediate action over delay in Ablekuma North election results

Minority Leader Osahene Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has raised concerns.

He is worried about the delay in declaring election results for Ablekuma North. This delay has lasted nearly six months since the December 2024 elections.

Afenyo-Markin stated that residents lack representation in Parliament. He addressed this issue during a statement in Parliament.

He blamed the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service for the delay. The police failed to secure the collation process, he said.

There were reports of supporters storming the collation center. They vandalized property and threatened electoral officials.

Despite court orders, police did not provide adequate protection. This led to a constitutional deadlock and stalled result declarations.

Afenyo-Markin urged the government to intervene immediately. He called on the Ministry of the Interior to ensure police uphold their duties.

He warned that this delay undermines Ghana's democratic credibility. It also disenfranchises thousands of voters in Ablekuma North.

He emphasized that electoral disputes must be resolved quickly. This is essential to maintain public confidence in democracy.

Afenyo-Markin reiterated his call for urgent action. He insisted that people of Ablekuma North deserve representation in Parliament now.
