The Minority in Parliament has accused the Attorney General of overstepping his mandate by allegedly directing raids, arrests, and investigations into former government appointees.
They argue that his role is to provide legal guidance to investigative bodies and assist the courts in ensuring justice, not to lead such operations.
Speaking on Monday, March 24, Second Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib criticized the Attorney General’s approach, describing it as an abuse of power that undermines the legal system.
He urged him to immediately cease such actions, warning that his interference compromises due process and the rule of law.
The Minority also disclosed that the National Security Coordinator had apologized to former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison after a controversial raid on his residence.
They questioned the legality of the operation, citing the absence of a court-issued warrant and the excessive force used.
According to them, the apology serves as evidence that the raid was unjustified.
