The Minority Caucus in Parliament has sharply criticized the government for its silence on a new 10% U.S. tariff affecting Ghanaian exports.

In a statement signed by Ranking Member on Trade, Michael Okeyer Baafi, they accused the Mahama administration of downplaying the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and abandoning successful export strategies from the previous NPP government.

They warned that Ghana risks being caught in a trade war, with key sectors like apparel, cocoa, and yam under threat—potentially triggering job losses.

The Minority called for urgent action: fund the AfCFTA plan, engage the U.S. diplomatically, and support exporters directly.

With AGOA benefits set to expire in 2025, they urged bold leadership, warning that continued inaction could jeopardize Ghana’s global trade position and economic resilience.
