Minority marches to police headquarters over delay in Ablekuma North election results

The Minority in Parliament protested today at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters in Accra. They petitioned the Inspector-General of Police about delays in election results for Ablekuma North.

Led by Minority Leader Osahene Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the MPs expressed frustration. The results from the December 2024 elections have been delayed for nearly six months. This delay has left residents without parliamentary representation.

In their petition, the Minority accused the police of inadequate security during vote counting. They claimed this allowed political interference and threats against electoral officers. The situation disrupted the election process.

The Minority argued that despite court orders, police failed to protect the electoral process. This failure has contributed to the ongoing stalemate. Afenyo-Markin stated, "The inability of the Electoral Commission to declare results is due to police negligence."

He added that this situation creates a constitutional crisis and denies rights to Ablekuma North residents. The Minority demanded immediate action from police leadership to resolve these issues. They also called on the Ministry of Interior for intervention and accountability.
