Miracles commends GIS, Interior Ministry for repatriation of undocumented migrants

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Communications for the Bawumia 2024 campaign, praised the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS). He commended their recent operation that arrested and repatriated undocumented migrants in Accra.

Aboagye spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on May 21. He urged the GIS to continue these efforts for national security. He noted that district assemblies need better resources and structures to support this work.

He expressed concern about the rising number of street beggars. Aboagye suggested many beggars might be involved in criminal activities. He thanked the Immigration Service and Interior Ministry for their actions.

His comments followed a GIS operation on May 16, 2025. This operation led to the arrest and repatriation of 925 undocumented migrants, mostly engaged in street begging. The repatriation began on May 17.

On May 19, the GIS confirmed that 819 repatriated individuals were Nigerians and 106 were Nigeriens. This operation has prompted calls for stronger local enforcement.

Political analyst Michael Kosi Dedey also shared his views. He emphasized that while border control is important, district assemblies must manage public spaces better. Dedey stated it is impossible to ensure complete border security but local authorities should prevent loitering and begging on streets.
