The Minister for the Interior nominee, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has clarified that decisions regarding the retention or dismissal of security agency heads, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, rest exclusively with President John Mahama.

During his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 24, Mr. Muntaka stated that his role is limited to making recommendations to the President.

Addressing questions about the IGP’s future, he assured the committee that the President would evaluate all security leaders to ensure alignment with his vision for national security.

Calls for Dr. Dampare’s removal have drawn mixed reactions, with critics questioning his alignment with government priorities, while others commend his resilience during tough times.

Mr. Muntaka reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to national interest.
