The Kekeli Muslim Community (KMC) has called on President John Mahama to reconsider the appointment of Mohammed Abdul Salaam as Managing Director of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).
The group cited religious concerns, noting that Islam explicitly forbids gambling, betting, and lotto.
Quoting the Quran (5:90) and a Hadith by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the KMC emphasized that games of chance are deemed "infamy of Satan's handwork" and urged believers to avoid them.
The KMC argued that the appointment could harm Islamic values and potentially influence Muslim youth to engage in haram practices.
They appealed to the President to revise the decision, emphasizing that doing so would strengthen trust between the administration and the Muslim community, fostering mutual respect and cooperation.
