Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister-designate, addressed concerns regarding his impartiality during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 28.

The concerns stemmed from his previous role as the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with some fearing it could affect his neutrality.

Dr. Omane Boamah firmly assured the committee, stating, “No Ghanaian should have any fear about my impartiality.”

He further emphasized his integrity and ability to separate politics from public service, saying he could even serve as the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) and remain impartial.

He explained that his tenure as Director of Elections for the NDC was solely for the 2024 general elections, and once his role was complete, he had stepped down.

Additionally, he reflected on his knowledge of the Ghana Armed Forces, noting the risks faced by recruits during training, promising to prioritize the welfare of citizens in his future role.
