Catherine Afeku, a former Minister of Tourism, remains loyal to the NPP. She previously supported Alan Kyerematen, who left the party before the 2024 elections.
In an interview on JoyNews’ Women, Power & Politics, Afeku discussed her loyalty. She acknowledged her past support for Kyerematen but chose to return to the NPP based on her principles.
"He withdrew from the party," she said. "He is still a good friend, but my value is loyalty."
Afeku respects Kyerematen and admires his work. However, she believes her political identity is tied to the NPP and its key figures.
She mentioned influential figures like Mrs. Oboshie Sai Cofie and Nana Akufo-Addo. "My loyalty is to the party," she stated, adding that she has no issues with Kyerematen.
Oboshie Sai Cofie introduced Afeku to politics and continues to influence her career.
Afeku recalled inviting Kyerematen to a cultural event when he was Ghana’s Ambassador in Washington.
"I respect him," she said, "but my loyalty is to the NPP."
Being honest about her political stance has earned her respect from others.
"I told him I’m for the party," she explained. "When you are upfront with people, they tend to respect you."
Alan Kyerematen resigned from the NPP in 2023 after years of leadership attempts. He cited unfairness in internal primaries and claimed a select group hijacked the party.
His departure led him to form the Movement for Change as an independent candidate for the 2024 elections.
