Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has responded to recent court news. An American court reduced the $18 million ruling against Kennedy Agyapong in their defamation case.
Anas stated that his victory is in the judgment, not the award. He finds comfort in Kennedy Agyapong's admission of defamation.
A jury had initially awarded $18 million to Anas against Agyapong. After this, Agyapong filed a motion for remittitur. He asked the judge to lower the amount he owed.
Today, the trial judge granted this motion and reduced the award to $500. The judge confirmed that Agyapong had defamed Anas but deemed the original award excessive.
In his statement, Anas reflected on the jury's finding of guilt. He noted that Agyapong admitted to maliciously defaming him through his motion.
Anas emphasized that this fight is about truth and justice, not money. He expressed satisfaction that no allegations against him were proven in court.
He vowed to continue fighting corruption and holding wrongdoers accountable.
